Project XZ Steam Demo Review
Verdict: Play
Project XZ is a sharp black-and-white action platformer where you are the tower that matters most.
Project XZ is a 2D action platformer with tower defense elements where you defend an extractor against waves of enemies. The art style is immediately striking, and the skill tree rewards careful, targeted play over spraying. The demo shows promise but balance issues suggest some work is still needed before the June 2026 release.
Pros
- Striking black and white silhouette art style
- Armor piercing skill adds satisfying depth
- Enemy variety introduced at a readable pace
- Busy combat that stays legible
Cons
- Fire rate skill has an unmentioned accuracy penalty
- Tower upgrades feel misleading early on
- Demo balance needs work before full release
- Only one map in the demo
